The other day I got a message on twitter announcing a series of real estate classes. The tweet came from someone that I do not know and am not following and who is not following me. The twit simply uses twitter for advertising.
I followed the link he sent. It appears that he may be teaching twitter. I tweeted back “I hope you are not teaching twitter” and of course got no response.
That evening . . late that evening the twit called my home phone and my cell phone. His messages stated that if he is using twitter incorrectly he would like to know. He said that he doesn’t have time for it at all but that he hired some young people to do it for him.
I never returned the teaching twits calls. He doesn’t have time to tweet and I don’t have time to teach instructors how to use twitter.
There are social media experts and gurus out there that don’t know much about social media. They got into it because they were unemployed or because the real estate market is slow and they need a way to make money. Some are proffesional instructors that will speak on any topic even if they don’t understand it.
Before signing up for a twitter class . . and why anyone would need such a class is beyond my comprehension . . Check to see if the speaker has an account or any followers. Twitter is about followers but it isn’t about the number of followers. It is about who follows and why. I don’t use twitter correctly so you can’t learn anything by following me except what I had for lunch or how my oatmeal is decorated.
Twitter isn’t just for Realtors and opening a twitter account and having someone tweet or using automatic tweets should not be part of a social media plan. . . . I can’t believe I wrote that last sentence.
