Trust

Trust2 Sometime I think that our Board of Realtors and MLS don't trust us.  I decided that the email I got from the local association this morning is perfect for this blog of mass destruction . . . and you know the hot dog thing . . blah, blah, blah . . .

"The Saint Paul Area Association of REALTORS® is excited to bring you direct agent MLS billing, which means you will be billed individually using a quarterly billing schedule.

Below is a timeline of important dates to remember:

  • March 10, 2010 – Agents billed for second quarter MLS services (April, May and June).
  • April 2, 2010 – Any unpaid agents will have their MLS services suspended until payment is received. A $50 reinstatement fee is charged in order for service to be reactivated.
  • May 2, 2010 – MLS service to the entire office is suspended if agents still have outstanding fees. A $50 reinstatement fee is charged in order to reactivate service for the office.
  • June 1, 2010 – Offices with agents who still have outstanding fees and have not reactivated their suspended services will be terminated."

Would an agent really stiff the MLS?   I wonder if the brokers will take up a collection to get these paid? If we are all independent contractors it seems fair that all of us would be responsible for the bills of one agent. . . NOT. LOL

Who thinks up this stuff and which grade school did they work for? Would anyone really find this exciting?

Lol. The “excited” comment is very funny. 🙂

They’d terminate the whole office’s service because of one delinquent who happens to wave your flag? That’s pretty tough stuff and I don’t imagine that person would be very popular around the office.

  2. Fire the canons and burn the bridges! What righteous agent would ever consider ‘stiffing’ their board? 🙂

I can tell you that the current rule is that the broker has to pay the bill for ALL agents and then gets reimbursed by the agent. Consequently this isn’t really different than the new system, the only difference is that brokers don’t have to rebill their agents.

Since Board & MLS membership are based upon the Broker, that is why the Broker is required to ensure all bills are paid.

It seems a little odd from the outside, but there is a definite method to the madness.
